Velasquez to create history against Lesnar at UFC 121
Cain Velasquez will attempt to create history at UFC 121 by becoming the first Mexican American heavyweight champion in the UFC.
Velasquez's heavyweight title shot at Brock Lesnar has been officially confirmed for October 23 at the Honda Center in California. The fight will be Lesnar's third title defence after victories over Frank Mir and Shane Carwin, while Velasquez will be looking to add to his undefeated 8-0 record.
"Throughout fighting history, there has never been a Mexican heavyweight champion, but at UFC 121, Cain Velasquez will try to make history and become the first," said UFC president Dana White. "To do that though, he must defeat the baddest man on the planet, UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar."

Without a doubt, in recent years the UFC and MMA in general has experienced a considerable increase in the size of the average heavyweight. With the division dominated by men cutting weight to make the 265 pound limit, traditional heavyweights have been forced to either bulk-up or flee to the light heavyweight division in hopes of remaining competitive. With the era of the super heavyweight indeed upon us, it seems at least one man did not get the memo.
At 6 feet 2 inches tall and 245 pounds, Cain Velasquez is considered to be one of the smaller competitors in his weight division. However, since beginning his professional career in 2006, the Mexican-American fighter has defeated all eight of the opponents put in front of him thus far and all but one by TKO.
"I don't think, you know, the weight for me is that big of a difference, because I've always dealt with it.I've always competed against guys that are a lot bigger. I'm used to it and I mean I've chosen to fight in this weight category, so you know, I have to deal with it."
